The Restriction of use of certain Hazardous substance (RoHS) came into force 1st July 2006 in the European Union (EU).
RoHS restricts the presence of Pb ,Hg, Cd ,Cr6+ and PBB & PBDE (Br Compounds ) in electrical and electronic equipment imported into EU countries.
Similar laws have been proposed or adopted in China and other countries outside the EU.
In order to ensure RoHS compliance , manufactures and suppliers need to test all material , components and parts used in electronic equipment.
Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence(ED-XRF) is used at Subodhsm to effectively test for regulated substances at the compliance levels for all restricted elements; Pb , Cd, Hg, Cr6+ , PBB & PBDE(Total Br). ED-XRF is ideal for testing RoHS , WEEE, Pb-free , ELV, Packaging.
The screening practice has been widely used as a simple and cost effective analysis technique.
Restricted levels for the RoHS substances.
1000 PPM (0.1%) maximum for Lead (Pb) , Merqury (Hg), Hexa-valent cromium Cr6+ and Bromium (PBB & PBDE)
100 PPM (0.01%) Maximum for Cadmium (Cd).
